اساس روش واکنش زنجیره ای پلیمراز در زمان واقعی، بر پایه تولید نور فلورسنت حین انجام واکنش pcr می باشد.
در این روش چون به مقدار زیادی از الگو نیاز نیست، در نتیجه در میزان استفاده از منبع الگو و زمان صرفه جویی می شود.امروزه Real Time PCR با داشتن حساسیت بسیار بالا و سهولت در انجام کار،بسیار مورد استفاده قرار می گیرد.همچنین برای مشاهده نتایج واکنش نظیر PCRکلاسیک،نیازی به الکتروفورز نمی باشد.
